PARKS AND RECREATION
The citizens of central Montana value their public recreation facilities. These are complemented by the City of Lewistown Park System which contains over 85 acres of parklands. These include: reservoirs, parks, fishing ponds, outdoor skating rink, miles of trails, and outdoor recreation facilities.
Notable facilities include:
The Civic Center- is the primary source of indoor recreation activities for the City and surrounding area. The Center is open year round, nearly 80 hours per week. The Center houses a rifle and archery range, weight room, sauna, locker room, storage room, a full court basketball gymnasium, stage, meeting rooms, game room, batting cage/pitching machine, etc. The facility is used for adult and youth sport leagues of all types. It is a source for most recreation league activities going on in the area. The Civic Center facilitates activities such as, dances, school programs, roller skating, rental of xc skis, private parties, etc.
Lewistown Municipal Pool- is located at Frank Day Park. It is a 50 meter pool with 2 waterslides, three diving boards, and a baby pool. The pool is open June through August. Use of the facility is carefully segmented to allow for private party rental, swim team, lessons, open swim, lap swim, etc.
D’Autremont Softball Complex-located on Airport Road. Consists of 4 ball fields-one lighted. The field are used for youth and adult softball, baseball, as well as soceer.
East Fork Recreation area and Frog Ponds Park- East Fork provides fishing, boating(no wake), and general recreation. Facilities include picnic tables, restrooms, a campground, and boat launch site. The Frog Ponds are located in the middle of Lewistown and are a great fishery for young people, as they are stocked annually with rainbow trout.
Trail system- presently consisting of Airport trail, Chokecherry trail, Golden Eagle trail, and the Brewery Flats Trail. Many more trails are planned and being developed.
Community Labyrinth Garden- located in Frank Day Park was built and is maintained by volunteers. It is a seven-circuit labyrinth that provides a sacred setting, an abundance of flowers, a “Keeper of Dreams” Sculpture, making it a popular place for weddings and gatherings, as well as a time for reflection.
Fergus High School Campus has some of the finest sports facilities in Montana. There is the Fergus High Fieldhouse, Golden Eagle Stadium and track, and the Lilian Kolar Championship tennis courts (8). These facilities are used by the students and public alike.
