GOLF CENTRAL MONTANA

Insert (golf_thackeray.jpg)Welcome to Lewistown!  Let’s golf!  Lewistown has a great variety of golf for a town its size.  We have two courses for you to choose from, but I suggest you play them both.

Early in the 20th century the Pine Meadows Golf Course was established on the south-east edge of town.  It is a 9-hole beauty nestled in rolling hills with towering pines.  Some very challenging greens and dog-legs along with forgiving rough make this course enjoyable for both the expert and novice alike. Insert (golf2.jpg) It features multiple bunkers and no water hazards.  Above the pro-shop you’ll find a very nicely furnished full-service bar overlooking the course.  Next to the bar is Harry’s on the Hill; a restaurant that serves a variety of delicious lunch items with a breathtaking view of the course.  The resident pro can help you fix that slice, unless you’ve learned to play with it like I have, or he might outfit you in a new shirt for the perfect souvenir of your record score.  A driving range and practice chipping and putting greens along with a practice bunker make the course complete.

Insert (golf4.jpg)More recently, in 1998, we acquired Central Montana’s only 18-hole course – Judith Shadows Golf Course.  Just a mile off the highway on the north-east edge of town, this creatively designed course will have you enjoying vistas of the Judith Mountains while it begs you to send one over a beautiful pond to a picturesque green.  Judith Shadows is nestled in a valley shadowed by the Judith Mountains and features bent grass greens & tees and four connected ponds.  The Shadows will treat you to outstanding golf with its semi-links style layout.  Hit a bucket at the driving range and warm up on one of the two practice greens and you’ll be ready to score!  Jeff and Maria have a good selection of souvenir logo clothingInsert (golf1.jpg) as well as a limited pro shop to help you with your equipment needs.  Snacks and a wide variety of beverages will keep you going for a full day of golf.  Call in or stop by to learn about their week-day special rates.

Both courses are open, weather depending, from early April to late October.  April and October can have less than desirable golfing weather but our average summer-time highs range from 60-80 degrees Fahrenheit with only about 1.5 to 2 inches of rainfall per month.  Winds are usually not a factor in our golf and we often times will have a nice 5 mph breeze to keep us cool.

Insert (golf5.jpg)With a population base of about 10,000 in the Lewistown area these two courses are not usually booked solid.  Of course, weekends are busier than weekdays, and the lunch hour can see some crazy locals out getting their nourishment from 5 or 9 holes while munching a granola bar or sandwich.  But, for the most part if you don’t have time to call ahead, or don’t know your schedule, you can still get on with only a few minutes wait if you just show up.

Give me a call when you hit town if you have any questions, concerns, or need a fourth. Chances are I’ll be happy to show you where to slice, and where not to (if you need that advise).  My name is Brett Thackeray and you can reach me at 538-5083 or 350-0170.  Or feel free to email me at thackeray@lewistown.net.  I’m glad you are thinking of visiting and I hope the weather is just how you like it!
